oh love of mine,
would you condescend to help me,
i'm stupid and blind?

[dear belle & sebastian,
please come to america.]

i finally caved: the air conditioner is on.

it only took one day to progress from perfectly pleasant to southernhumidnasty summer.
i'm ready to move now...

4.21.2009

my ipod is on the fritz.
it froze again and i don't know what to do. in other news, i actually cooked a decent meal! i own meatloaf, basically. for the first time in the history of knowing matt (five years? six? i don't even know) i actually cooked something worthy of compliment. huzzah. [too bad i was miserable with heartburn from the ketchup + red wine combo for the rest of the night]

i had to close last night, so i pulled out my book and read for the last two hours, as about three people came in to buy something. the book was so good, i finished it last night before i went to bed and proceeded to have one of those nights where i just dream about the book. in this case, my dreams were filled with the goblin-king and captured but ultimately willing wife + various misadventures (have i mentioned i'm completely obsessed with ya fantasy? where was this genre when i was 15?); only, the weird[er] thing was, i was narrating the entire experience. it was as if i were writing it down and living it at the same time, "she replied"/"he said" included. i'd be more specific, but i have an annoying habit of forgetting those specifics, no matter how vivid the dream. frustration ensues, and while i'm aware that no one really wants to hear about it, i'd at least like the option of escaping back the memory, if i had the urge.

now comes the decision making: go to the library and check out books two and three, start the other unrelated book i picked up yesterday, or hold off in hopes that city of glass is waiting for me on the hold-shelf today...

(i think i need to find a job at an all-girls school, as boys will find me utterly useless, i'm afraid.)

tradgedy.

easter candy is all gone [save pernicious peeps] !
i only had four measly cadbury eggs all season and now i want to weep. (why do i continue to let boy make me feel bad for adoring the most delicious candy ever? cheez-it, cadbury egg, bread + butter, and gin. i need nothing more from life.)

my new job is going fabulously, although i really, *really* miss my dear college store. chris called yesterday because i told him i'd help with buybacks if i still hadn't found a job by the end of the semester, and i felt terrible for not being able to do it anymore...i dont' know why i love that place so much, but i do.
i just ordred a pizza online.
i feel. so. techy?

4.11.2009

over dinner, le boy and i were talking about boy v. girl babies (and how it was appropriate for a certain someone to have had a girl because i'm not sure how said unnamed person would handle being the only girl in that family). i told him i didn't really care either way, but i'd be really sad if i didn't get to use my girl name (elinor) because i've had it picked out since i was, oh, we'll say 15? 16? it has so many amazing possibilities for shortening: ella, elli, elle, nora, nell, ellen, etc.

that led into the whole, "how did you come up with that?" conversation, in which he suggested eleanor roosevelt, and i replied no, it was actually a combination of a jane austen character (elinor dashwood), samwise the brave's daughter (elinor--found in the appendix of return of the king. yes, i'm that much of a geek.) and tinsley's mom. i explained that there was a difference in spelling after boy balked at my inspiration and claimed he'd only approve if we went with the eleanor roosevelt spelling and the tinsley's mom or former first lady explanation.

so. my retort:
i told him if he could spell it, we'd go the e.r. way; otherwise, it's my nine months of pain, it's my idea, and it's my spelling.

matt: um. e-l-l-a-n-o-r.

i win.

4.05.2009

it's supposed to freeze tomorrow night. wtf.
all of my flowers are going to die: roses, pear tree, redbud tree, and a solitary tulip.

having a yard is not worth the sorrow of alabama "spring"

4.02.2009

i just raced the storm from tuscaloosa to birmingham, and i won by about ten minutes.
probably not the most intelligent thing to do, but since the actual twista was headed the coker/samantha/fayette county route (why people continue to live here, i will never understand) i figured i was golden. it didn't actually start raining on me until i arrived at the publix in homewood.

always on the ball [cough], tidetext "alerted" me to the situation:
3:30 pm. james span (abc 33 weatherman extraordinaire) gives the all-clear for downtown tuscaloosa/ua campus area over the radio

4:02 pm. i receive the following text message: "ALERT: tornado warning until 4:00 pm. classes suspended. immediately go to the lowest level of the nearest building."

4:03 pm. i immediately receive another text message: "the tornado warning for the university of alabama has now expired. classes and activities will now resume as normal."

thanks guys.
i feel safe with you in charge.
