i have a new job!
(but now i don't have any time to tell you about it!?)
once i settle in to my regular schedule, perhaps i can find the time/sanity to elaborate, but here's the skinny:
i'm still working at eol, processing the children's books i love so dearly, but in addition to that, i'm also newly employed by hoooooover! i'm working at the fiction desk, which was a little daunting seeing as my reading choices since high school seemed to revert back down the reading age level scale rather than up it. thanks to the internet and book knowledge i didn't even know i had, it's going really well, though, and i'm loving it.

eventually i'll settle in and not feel rushed all the time.
i think?
here's hoping.
too many bagels have been sacrificed to the unattended oven broiler as it is.

entre, 2012

Despite my introverted and even introspective nature, I've never really been keen on the whole resolutions thing...apart from elementary school assignments in which I was forced to churn out a list, I never saw much of a point. Perhaps it's my inner Eeyore, who just sees them as a quick ticket to failure--who keeps their resolutions anyway? Sure there are things I'd like to change about myself and my life, but more than that, I'd rather find the peace of mind to be comfortable with myself, period. I did read about a kind-of-amazing (but also kind of scammy-sounding) service geared towards the resolved-to-be-fit crowd this week, wherein you are automatically charged $5 if you don't check-in at the gym via your smartphone according to the schedule you set. (Supposedly, you get rewarded when you do?) While clever, you will never convince me that it is anything short of crazy...

Boy is off for the weekend doing the Elmer Fudd while I am gladly staying home to recover from the marathon of travel that took place over the holidays: mobile-huntsville-birmingham-worrrrrrrrrrrrrk-huntsville-gatlinburg-huntsville-birmingham. worrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrk. I've officially cleared off both the kitchen table and the coffee table, so as long as I don't go in the guest bedroom (where I stashed all the stuffs), things appear to be back to normal.  I cooked my standard Matt's-out-of-town dinner of broiled salmon and a baked potato (how can you not like salmon this way and still be sane? stuck-up gulf-coaster...) and plan of spending the rest of the evening just as I did before dinner: with a little Otis, Joni, Velvet Underground, and (of course) a glorious work of teen fiction. yesssss. I might even snuggle into my jammies at the grandmotherly hour of 7:00. I mean. No one's here to judge me but the dog, right?

Before I end, though:
In honor of Epiphany, here's a little nugget of weird I found stashed in the back of a picture book about Heaven (I don't think this is what Jesus had in mind. ever.):
